The MPPS district approved of and supported distributing apples to students in the entire school district of Mt. Pleasant; approximately 3,000 students. There were over 400,000 in the Great Lakes area to participate in the event of biting into the apples at the same time. The apples came from Sparta, MI just north of Grand Rapids. The purpose is to celebrate seasonal, local, and fresh food! This event was to help the local community along with showing students what nutritious food is in season. These apples were supplied by ARAMARK, which is a company that works with CMU dining halls.
